To say my “brand promotion” session with Kathianna of Rousseau Design Studios was absolutely incredible would be an understatement. I’ve known Kathianna for almost 5 years now as a bold, spontaneous energetic personality with the determination and drive to change the world of design one space at a time. Upon graduation from Philadelphia University, with myself, she started her own design studio because she knew that would be the only way to get her unique ideas out into the world. She wasn’t one to be stuck in a cubicle, rather one to push the boundaries and be inspired by the world around her.
We started out the morning on the streets of Chelsea, New York, where the design industry is appreciated and flourishing. The old Meatpacking Buildings tear at my heartstrings throughout this area and of course, the new addition to the area, The High Line is among my favorite places in NYC (which we hopped over to for a few quick shots as well)
This was my first “urban” shoot and I was absolutely IN LOVE with the endless possibilities the city brought us.
Her design studio can be described as experience design, which focuses on creating spaces that evoke a journey and full sensory experience that solves a design issue, whether it be product design, a piece of furniture, a public installation or an interior space. Our goal of the shoot was to capture this experience through finding and showing her appreciation of public art and design. She describes herself as somewhat similar to a street artist, deliberate, bold and raw with her movements. She wants her viewers/users to experience the unexpected and reflect on what they see far after they come in contact with her designs.
A Blank canvas… We then ventured to Bushwick, Brooklyn where street art is found on every corner. Kathianna envisions her design studio to have the freedom and the impact of street art so we knew we absolutely had to do her shoot there, as you can tell by the way she talks how much she appreciates the pure emotion drawn through art.
Laura Lee Photography is creating a new “niche” of Brand Promotion photography which will help promote the attitudes and personalities of creative professionals. This is what I hope to be the first of many brand promotion sessions in the future. Whether you are a designer, photographer, chef, artist, personal trainer, puppy lover or more, if you have a creative brand you are trying to promote, I would love to help you capture your spirit and your vision.
Enjoy!
Be Bold. Be Beautiful. Be You.
