Hi! I'm Laura!

I’m a wedding and brand photographer for creative and adventurous hearts and and your resident work-life balance aficionado. I’m so glad you’re here!
My favorite thing in life is sitting out by my fire-pit with a glass of Riesling and a s’more in hand with friends and family surrounding me. I'm rarely ever found without a warm blanket wrapped around me, and If my wallet didn't frown upon it, I’d probably buy everything in Anthropologie Home and Free People.

Normally, I’d save this post for a “Workflow Wednesday”, especially since I already blogged today but it just can’t wait! Not with tax season right around the corner. If you’re still not using MileIQ here’s something that may convince you.

About six months ago I learned about this awesome little app called MileIQ. I honestly don’t even know where I heard about it anymore but what I can say is that it’s absolutely life changing! Every time you drive, it runs on your phone and calculates the miles and where you drove to/from.  Then, at the beginning of every week, MileIQ sends you an email to classify your drives for the week! You can make notes after every drive, but to be honest I never remember to do that and I find it way more efficient to do it once a week every Monday when the email comes in!

When you get the email you click a little button that says “Classify Drives.” From here, you get brought to a page that will show you all the drives you’ve ever done. I choose to show only unclassified drives so I’m not overwhelmed with the ones I already input! Then I simply click whether it was business or personal and if it’s business I say what it was and add a note (Ie: Photo Session:  Engagement for Colleen and Justin at Palisades Park Stateline Lookout. Or, “Meeting: Lunch with Indigo and Ivy Events”)mileiq 1

I was absolutely shocked this year when I had nearly $7500 worth of drives to classify and write off on my taxes. Seriously I saved SO MUCH money by getting this app for $6/month because I was able to write off so much more than I used to when I was using paper and pen. I always forgot to keep track of the Staples and Post Office runs but now this app does all the work for me!

If you’re still on pen and paper, do yourself a favor and splurge on the $6/month. I promise you will get all that money back and then some.

Additionally, you will be SO FREAKIN HAPPY come tax season when all you need to do is hit “Print Yearly Mileage Report” and ALLLLLLLL your business or personal drives are there in a beautiful chart ready to give to your accountant. They’ll love you. Promise.
