Liz and Jason had an amazing engagement session in Hoboken, and I just LOVE these two. From the second I spoke with them when they inquired about their Jersey City wedding, I knew Liz and Jason were the perfect Laura Lee couple – fun-loving, down to earth, adventurous and sporty, and just SO IN LOVE! So, where did it all begin?
Their Dating Journey
After a long recovery from an injury, Liz knew she needed to get back in the dating scene. With a bottle of wine and her girlfriends, Liz created her Match.com profile and started looking for guys in her area with similar interests. She stumbled upon Jason’s profile and was very intrigued by his love of CrossFit, Hoboken, and running! After Jason reached out, Liz replied and the rest was history!
Their first date was on a cold, snowy night in January. Jason picked a bar near Liz’s job and planned to meet her that evening in NYC. He was late, which she later found out was a common trait of Jason’s! The bar was packed and while Liz waited she was planning her exit (EKK!) Once Jason arrived, they couldn’t hear each other speak and the only seat available was a table with some friendly locals that looked like ZZ Top. After a short time, they both called it quits and decided they would try again on a second date.
Needless to say, the second and many dates to follow went MUCH better! They both found their love of athletics and adventure sports together. They described their perfect date as “weight vest training and a nice whiskey tasting, preferably on a beach during sunset (of course!)” They also love to explore old town and go to festivals together. They enjoy it all – cityscapes, countrysides, and seasides (ME TOO!) And puppy videos =)
They describe themselves as adventurous and silly – and this could not be more accurate! Their session was so fun and playful! Their love for one another and connection is so clear!
The Proposal
Liz and Jason got engaged in August last year on the Stevens Campus hill overlooking NYC and Hoboken. Jason had been planning to propose for a while but Liz kept changing plans! He was heading out of town for a week at the end of the summer and didn’t want to leave the ring in the house unattended!
They woke up that morning and ran a casual half marathon. These guys are amazing!!
Jason knew that this would be the day! But of course, Liz decided that afternoon she was going to go out on a girls night. Liz said the color drained from his face when she told him about her plans. Later that night, Jason brought up the “M” word – which was not normally part of their everyday talk. Liz asked him if could see them getting married one day. Jason, overwhelmed with anxiety that the ring was in the next room and he was running out of time to propose, egregiously replied something along the lines of ‘’I think…maybe…one day…I might…perhaps…maybe…not…”. (Oh no!)
The following day Liz was still not talking to Jason but she agreed to take a walk and get food because they were both hungry. He took her to their special spot on the Stevens Campus which Liz wanted nothing to do with. She angrily walked away and he nervously grabbed her hand, got down on one knee and asked: “Me…marry…you…?” The photographer he hired (and had canceled on everytime Liz’s plans changed!) had captured the entire moment perfectly—including Liz’s initial reaction of laughing. It was the most perfect moment of their lives.
The Session
To say these two are fiercely, boldly, and unapologetically in love would be an understatement. They LIGHT UP looking at each other, and it couldn’t be more fun to watch. We started their session in Hoboken, with their current home together in the background, and then opted for an outfit change into gym clothes to hit the track! They wore custom designed T-Shirts with their soon-to-be married name and wedding date on them and hit the track for some weight lifting and a light jog with the city skyline in the background. It was my first session on a track and it was so much fun! I just LOVE when couples incorporate THEIR story into their pictures. We ended the night at City Bistro for dinner on the rooftop and I can’t thank these two enough for treating me to such a great night!
Liz and Jason, I just ADORE you guys and am so HONORED to be a part of your wedding day, and be the one to document your sweet love story. I hope you cherish these moments and I can’t wait to see you in just a few shorts month for your wedding. <3
[…] Prior to shooting their wedding, I had the opportunity to hang with these two in Hoboken for their engagement session and really get to know them and hear more about how they met, their relationship and of course the proposal. Jason’s plan for the proposal did not come without a few hiccups’s but in the end, it turned out perfectly. If you missed their engagement session post, head over to the blog to read it now. […]
